Pasture Canyon

Pasture Canyon

Tuba City, Arizona 86045

About this Location

Lower Pasture Canyon: Amid a sparsely vegetated, arid landscape, this green belt is stunning to see. Huge cottonwoods shade a dense, brushy understory. Not surprisingly, migrant birding can be almost overwhelming. Huge flocks of warblers, vireos, flycatchers, tanagers, orioles, sparrows, and others move through on good days. The potential for vagrants is very good.

Upper Pasture Canyon: Loose sand and a few rough spots in the road make Upper Pasture Canyon a little trickier to get to. The narrowness of the canyon here concentrates habitat much more than in Lower Pasture Canyon, actually making it easier to bird. Migrants are funneled through this canyon, making the potential for an epic day of birding.
