About this Location

Griggs Reservoir Park runs from the dam to the North down to Lane Avenue on the East side of the reservoir. The park offers both bike and driving trails (about 2.25 miles) along the river. The boat launch area is just South of the Fishinger Road bridge. While Griggs Reservoir Park contains nature preserves, boating, and a disc golf course, this park is ideal for sunbathers, hikers, athletes, picnickers, and children. Parking areas and picnic tables are located throughout the park with several access points from Riverside Drive.

The dam was dedicated in 1905, named in honor of Julian Griggs, who was chief engineer for the City of Columbus for many years. Mr. Griggs died in 1922.

About Griggs Reservoir

Griggs Reservoir is located in Franklin County, in central Ohio, just west of Columbus. US-33 parallels the lake on the east side and there is a public boat launch just south of the Fishinger Road intersection.

Griggs Reservoir is maintained and operated by the city of Columbus Division of Watershed Management as a source of municipal water supply. The dam was constructed on the Scioto River in 1904 creating a long narrow lake that runs north to south for approximately six miles, creating 387 surface acres of fishing water. The lake is generally clear, but is influenced heavily by rain events and can become very turbid. Depths can exceed 20 feet near the dam, but most of the reservoir is between 10 and 15 feet deep.

Parks located on Grigs Reservoir include Duranceau Park, Griggs Reservoir Park, Hayden Falls Park, and Kiwanis Riverway Park.
