Tips for Birding

Bird enthusiasts can view and photograph birds from their vehicles throughout the park, and/or by walking the many trails throughout the park.

Birds of Interest

There is an osprey nest on the south side of George Wyth Lake, which has been active during spring and summer. Also, a wide variety of seasonal songbirds, warblers, herons, eagles, woodpeckers, owls, and other shore birds. River Otters, deer, and other wildlife are often seen as well.

About this Location

Important Bird Area.
In Waterloo, Black Hawk Co. The park is along U.S. 218 just east of its meeting with Hwy. 58, on the north edge of the Cedar Falls-Waterloo area. U.S. 218 is well-marked for finding the park. Upon entering, George Wyth is the first lake in front of you. The road left, which skirts the lake, leads to more viewing spots.

There are many paved and well-groomed non-paved trails throughout the park through open and wooded areas.
