Tips for Birding

Parsons Gardens is not a typical birding location but more of a quick spot check. The best time to check here is in spring and fall when waterfowl are migrating. The mowed field at these times is usually flooded with water, providing habitat for migrating ducks and geese. There are usually Mallards and Canada Geese present and sometimes less common species will drop in. In addition to the flooded fields, there are trees to the south that could hold migrating songbirds, and to the southwest, there is a nice Buttonbush wetland that could hold species that like more protected wet areas. Also, the open area of the park provides a good view of the sky for birds in flight.
