Pioneer Rest Cemetery

Pioneer Rest Cemetery

Plymouth, Ohio 44865

About this Location

This very well kept cemetery is located near the southern edge of the Village of Plymouth, Ohio. The land is only slightly elevated near the center, dropping slightly lower near the northern boundary. The cemetery’s eastern boundary is located next to a small park, divided by a beautiful old ornate wrought iron fence. A very impressive gated entrance commands your attention as you walk near the center of the eastern border. This gate has the cemetery name wrought in an arch over the entrance. It is nestled next to a beautifully kept village park, near the western edge of OH-61. All this is located just north of the railroad tracks, not far from the Huron County border. This cemetery was formerly owned by a private organization but for some time has been the property and responsibility of the village. There are some stones that have toppled and broken and many have weathered to an extent that they are no longer readable. A brief sampling of this cemetery shows stones with readable dates as early as 1824, so it has been used for this purpose for nearly 200 years, possibly longer.
