The trail system is open to ATV, OHM, and mountain bike use from April 15 through December 15 each year.

The Hanging Rock area of the Wayne National Forest provides some excellent opportunities for riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-highway motorcycles (OHMs). This System has 26 miles of trail available for off-road vehicles, hiking, and mountain bike use.

These trails wind through an area strip-mined in the 1960s and 1970s. Much of the upland area was badly scarred, and some areas are left with steep slopes providing challenging trails to riders. The area is also known for its fishing ponds, 51 of which are available for fishing. The ponds which are scattered along the ATV trail, lend a picturesque backdrop to an ATV ride.

The trail system is closed to ATV, OHM, and mountain bike use from December 16-April 14 each year.

The Wayne National Forest is located in the hills of southeastern Ohio. This small national forest, in the heart of the heavily populated Midwest, covers almost a quarter million acres of Appalachian foothills. The Wayne is divided into three blocks administered by two Ranger Districts at Athens and Ironton. A field office is also located east of Marietta.

Visitors to national forest lands are welcome to camp, hike, hunt, and fish. The Forest boundaries surround a checkerboard pattern of ownership, with public and private ownership interspersed. There are over 300 miles of trails in the Forest for hiking, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) riding, mountain biking, or horseback riding.
