Important Bird Area.
From I-35 take exit 112 Mount Ayr/Kellerton/Decatur City and get on Hwy. 2 west. Proceed west on Hwy. 2 towards Bedford (approximately 1 hour drive). Turn left on Lake Road (formerly state Hwy. 49) as you near towards Bedford (it’s a four-way intersection with a coop towards your right and a truck repair shop on your left. Proceed north on Lake Road until you see a sign to your left that says “Lake of Three Fires Dredging Project”. Turn at the service driveway and drive up the hill (at this point you are proceeding west). A small parking lot is there and the trail to the west is clearly visible. Up this trail is the dredging basin. If you continue up Lake Road you will within about 0.5 miles come to the entrance of the Lake of Three Fires State Park. For the sparrow: West of the parking area is a singled chained access path. Past the chain about 500 feet is where I first encountered the bird.
