Tips for Birding

Meadowbrook Marsh is a stop on the Lake Erie Birding Trail.

About this Location

The 113 acres within Meadowbrook includes a category 3 wetland marsh, forest, meadow, and grassland. The wetland located on the west side of the bridge will never experience development and is home to an amazing selection of waterfowl. You may view it from the dike but please be careful as you walk along heavily traveled Bayshore Road. On the east side of the bridge, you will enjoy an observation deck, 2,800 feet of ADA accessible paved trails and another 3,000+ feet of mulched and grass trails. You will find that all trails intersect. Improvements to Meadowbrook are ongoing and will include future trails.

We do not permit hunting, motorized vehicles or horses. Please, keep dogs on a leash and collect their waste. Meadowbrook has a vast array of migratory birds and waterfowl, deer, muskrat and coyote along with dozens of other natural wonders and wildlife. Our bird species include songbirds, bald eagle, pheasant, egrets, great blue heron, green heron, screech owl, great horned owl, red-tailed hawk, belted kingfisher and broad-shouldered hawk. Enjoy your visit and please leave only your footsteps behind!

Notable Trails

Meadowbrook Marsh Trails
There is 1 mile of trails at Meadowbrook Marsh. During migration, this can be a great place to walk and is much less crowded with birders than the popular trails at Magee Marsh. From the parking lot, follow the paved trail to the right. All the trails, including the grass trails, are worth exploring. In the morning or during wet weather, these grass trails can be wet. Waterproof boots are helpful.
