In 2013 there were 20 or 30 Great Blue Heron nests as well as a Bald Eagle nest across the Black River from the park. The elevated cliffs afford a view of the Herons at nest level, something that’s unusual. Flocks of hundreds of cormorants have been observed at this location as well.
Cromwell Park is owned by the City of Lorain. There are plans to add hiking and birding trails to the location.
