Tips for Birding

Via Diego is a residential street near the northwestern Santa Barbara City limits that winds from La Colina Road at its southern end to Primavera Road at its northern end. It is lined by mature Tipuana (tipu) trees that sometimes support large numbers of warblers and other small passerines attracted to the area in fall and winter due to the infestation of these ornamental trees. A small open space, Los Robles Park, occurs midway along the street. Several tipu trees also occur on the short dead-end street of Via Rosa, just east of Las Robles Park. A small population of Yellow Warblers has been known to breed along Via Diego, which provides atypical habitat for this species.
