Tips for Birding

I see the most birds hiking the wet forest boardwalk. The center recently expanded the bird feeders that you can watch from the nature center. Easily you can see 15 species there. A winter favorite of mine is the flock of Tree Sparrows. If you are there in the winter on a Friday or Saturday, ask a naturist to fill out a bird form for their winter feeder checklist. This will help them know to keep the feeder filled during the wintertime.

About this Location

Donated by the family of the late William Windus Knight, this 44-acre preserve offers hiking trails and boardwalks through various natural areas including wetland, remnant swamp woods, and native prairie. The pond offers family fishing opportunities. Opened in 2005, the Nature Center at the preserve offers various educational opportunities including a Lookout on Nature Area (LOONA), perfect for bird watching. The facility also includes the rentable Hankison Great Room.
