Newell Recreation Preserve

Tips for Birding

Newell Preserve is a small park at the far NW corner of Licking County.   It is mostly an old farm re-planted in prairie grasses, and is bisected by the Ohio-to-Erie Bicycle Trail.   The north portion of the preserve includes a block of woodland that is good for woodpeckers and flock birds, while the prairie areas can have sparrows and other grassland birds.   You can park at the trail lot for the bike path and walk along the bike path and through the woodlot; there are as yet no official trails.
