Most of the trail uses city streets but a 2-mile middle section, centered on Shroyer Road as the access point, is a paved converted railroad bed. Called the Dayton-Kettering Connector (Trail #19) on Miami Valley Bike Trails map, this section runs through neighborhoods lined with suburban tree and hedgerow habitats.
