About this Location

Rivergate Park reclaims 6.5 acres of vacant, industrialized land in the Flats, with the goal of transforming it into an urban waterfront park with people-powered boating, (including rowing, kayaking, dragon boating, and canoeing) as well as bicycling. Rivergate is adjacent to the Towpath Trail.

Rivergate Park is jointly owned by the Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF), Cleveland Metroparks, and the City of Cleveland, working together and with surrounding partners to create a diverse recreational campus and green space in the Flats.

CRF owns and operates the boathouse from which adult, collegiate, and scholastic rowing programs operate. Metroparks owns and operates Merwin’s Wharf Bistro and has developed a Green Corridor and all-purpose trail along the river, and the City of Cleveland is funding the construction of a new urban skatepark. Nearby, the Ohio City Bike Co-op provides new and rental bikes for use on the growing network of trails passing by Rivergate.

Metroparks became a Rivergate partner in 2011, establishing their first urban park at Rivergate. Metroparks began creating a green corridor along the Cuyahoga River and an all-purpose trail that will run the length of Rivergate. Metroparks has also opened the Rivergate Bistro providing food and beverages from a beautiful riverfront setting.
