About this Location

Sautter Memorial Park is a fine example how a family heir can honor their parents by establishing a permanent natural legacy in their name. The original 80-acre family farm of George and Lillian Sautter was donated to the Morrow County Park District in 2004, with deed restrictions that mandate it forever remain a public park for all to enjoy. The park district is blessed to have such generous and forward-thinking people consider the District as their benefactor.

A large portion of the acreage contains a very rich and diverse forested beech/maple community with numerous wetlands and intermittent streams scattered throughout. Although the trees are not extremely large, their abundance, diversity, and vigor are inspiring. A multistory canopy shades an excellent assortment of spring blooming wildflowers and provides ideal nesting habitat for many forest-dependent birds.

The management plan for the remaining cultivated agricultural fields is to permit natural plant succession to gradually creep out from the forest margins. Special tree seedlings and limited grasslands are being planted to speed this process and to protect vulnerable water resources.

The park has a small parking area, but trails are still in the very early process of establishment. Please, anticipate wet walking conditions.
