About this Location

Tummonds State Nature Preserve was Ohio’s first scenic river preserve, designated in 1986. It protects 1.5 miles of river corridor along the Upper Cuyahoga State Scenic River. It is dedicated in memory of Charles A. Tummonds, a long-time friend of the division and advocate of the preservation of the Cuyahoga River and conservation in northeastern Ohio.

  • Excellent wooded corridor along the Upper Cuyahoga State Scenic River
  • No visitor facilities are present

In addition to the wooded riverine corridor, which contains impressive beech trees, the north part of the preserve contains a small sphagnum bog, dry kame woods, swamp woods, and marsh.

Located approximately 0.5 miles south of Mantua along OH-44 adjacent to the Upper Cuyahoga State Scenic River. No visitor facilities are present; access to the preserve is poor from OH-44 as most of the preserve is on the north side of the river. Accessible by canoe from the Upper Cuyahoga River.
