While managed by the Ashland County Park District, Esbenshade Wetlands is in Richland County.
This 76-acre park runs along the Black Fork River and is bordered by the Ashland University wetlands. The site is mostly floodplain forest, buttonbush swamp, and marsh. A large beaver dam has flooded almost 20 acres to create the buttonbush swamp where muskrats, beaver, and a variety of waterfowl live. At present, there are limited trails for walking and hiking, but the property is popular for seasonal hunting.
