Fountain Park, named for the fountains that were once found in concrete pools along the base of the hill, is a 35-acre park that offers surprisingly good birding. The park contains a historic bandshell, a large picnic pavilion, a playground, tennis courts, restrooms, and a baseball diamond. The park has been around for over 100 years and, as a result, contains some truly massive cottonwood and oak trees.

To visit the park, it is best to park along Forest Avenue.

Stroll through the park itself, where you can find many common bird species as well as some less common birds, such as pileated and red-headed woodpeckers. Once you’ve birded the park itself, climb the stairs near the bandshell up to the canal levee. Along the levee, you may see osprey, wood duck, double-crested cormorant, hairy woodpeckers, and warblers during spring and fall migration. In winter, walk past the baseball diamond into Forest Hill Cemetery. Spruce trees here can harbor interesting species in winter, so keep your eyes peeled and enjoy your walk through the historic cemetery. The field behind the cemetery can be a good place for winter sparrows as well.

Fountain Park is a 35-acre park divided by a hydraulic canal.

Lower Fountain provides Hance Pavilion, Fountain Park Dining Hall, picnic shelters, Hardman Field baseball diamond, tennis courts, a basketball court, a volleyball court, picnic tables, playground equipment, swinging benches, and grills.

Upper Fountain contains a picnic shelter, tables, grill, fishing platform, and boat launch.

The hydraulic canal that separates the Upper and Lower Fountain provides a peaceful walking path and provides for fishing both on the waterway and off the bank.

Lower Fountain Park is located at Forest Avenue and Echo Lake Drive. Upper Fountain Park is located on Fountain Boulevard. The hours for both parks are 7:00 a.m. to dusk.

The River's Edge Trial that traverses the park is wheelchair accessible.
