When submitting eBird observations at Rich State Forest, it is most helpful to start a new checklist for each hotspot in the State Forest. Use the general hotspot when you have a checklist that includes multiple locations or if no other hotspot or personal location is appropriate for your sightings.

J. Harry Rich State Forest is a state-owned tree farm that covers 507 acres of land in the Town of Groton and borders the Town of Pepperell. The forest is named after John Harry Rich, a former State Forester who was instrumental in acquiring land for the Quabbin Reservoir, one of the largest public works projects in the early 20th century. The forest offers visitors a chance to enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The forest has a network of trails that pass through diverse habitats, including wetlands, woodlands, and fields. The forest also protects the watershed of the Nashua River and Cold Spring Pond.
