Koogler Wetland and Prairie Preserve

About this Location

Acquired in 2003, Beavercreek Township secured this site with a Clean Ohio Grant, a contribution from the Koogler family, and participation by the Beavercreek Wetlands Association. Future plans include an observation deck in the swamp and a boardwalk. Koogler Reserve features the only large swamp in the wetlands.

The upland prairie and wet prairie were restored by Beavercreek Township and the Ohio Division of Wildlife. Trails and boardwalk were constructed by the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association volunteers with a Dayton Foundation grant.

Come to bird watch — woodpeckers, woodcock, Prothonotary Warblers, many spring migrants, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow Warbler, Eastern Towhee — and enjoy unique wetland plants such as Skunk Cabbage and tall prairie grasses, Big Bluestem, coneflowers, sedge meadows, and the wet woodland trees. See Beaver Creek, frogs, toads and salamanders, and sometimes North American Beaver.
