Please note that the Ohio-West Virginia border is near the Ohio side of the Ohio River at this location. When reporting birds from the Ohio hotspot use multiple incomplete checklists as described below.
Ohio eBird reviewers ask that birders keep precise state and county lists. When you are at a location where you see birds across a state or county line, we ask that you keep two incomplete birding lists, one for each side of the border.
When keeping separate checklists for different sides of a border, please follow these rules:
Burlington Commons is located just east of the southernmost point in Ohio. The park provides views of birds on the Ohio River. Birds out on the river are in West Virginia. (There is an eBird hotspot on the opposite side of the river in West Virginia, Camden Park.)
Burlington Commons is a small community park, with a basketball court, a playground, and a picnic area overlooking the Ohio River. There’s a short walking trail around the park, with the portion in the picnic area being the most promising for birders.
The park provides an open view of the Ohio River and anything that might be flying or swimming up it. The opposite shore is tree-lined (though not wooded). The river is not too broad for binoculars, at least for anything waterfowl-sized, but a scope can be helpful with tricky identifications and smaller birds.
Parking is along the side of Washington Street.
