About this Location

Sabal Palm Sanctuary lies along the Rio Grande. An elaborate system of trails offers opportunities to overlook the Rio Grande and view a resaca from several blinds an a boardwalk. During prolonged drought, the resaca may become nearly dry influencing the variety of birds seen. The Rabb Plantation House serves as the visitor center. Adjacent to the house is a garden well planted for hummingbirds and butterflies. the garden offers extensive interpretive signs and an attractive pond. During winter, a large number of Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures roost at the sanctuary. The sanctuary is also home to a nice population of javelina.
