About this Location

The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center (SMNHC) is an environmental education center in New Mexico, owned by Albuquerque Public Schools and jointly operated with the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. The primary focus of the SMNHC is an Ecology Field Program for 5th graders throughout the Albuquerque area and New Mexico.

The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center (SMNHC) is situated on 128 acres of mixed conifer forest in the mountains east of Albuquerque. Area students have been engaged in outdoor science programming at the center since 1967.

The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center is Albuquerque Public Schools property. Access is limited to schools and other scheduled groups except on special public days.
