About this Location

Crystal Lake is a natural pond with a surface area of 33 acres and a maximum depth of 31 feet. It was formerly known as Wiswall's Pond or Baptist Pond, but it was renamed Crystal Lake in the mid-19th century for marketing purposes. The lake was used for commercial ice harvesting until 1933 when the last ice house was closed and dismantled. Today, the lake is a popular recreational spot, with a public beach and bathhouse on its southern shore. The beach is open from late May to late August and offers swimming lessons, lifeguards, and memberships for Newton residents. The lake also has two small parks on its eastern and western shores.
