Newtown Bottoms

Tips for Birding

The Newtown Bottoms area is worth checking when the Ohio River is flooding. Backwater flooding fills the entire river bottom and occasionally overtops OH-32. Viewing is from the Clear Creek Park driveway (which is closed during flooding, leaving about 30 ft of higher pavement as a viewing area). The Turpin Sod Farm is viewable from this location. Birders also use the Turpin Sod Farm driveway a few hundred yards down which also floods in a similar manner to the park. When that happens, the sod farm shuts down and there’s nothing to obstruct by parking in their driveway.
