About this Location

Flerra meadows are located on Stow Road, between Burroughs and Chester Roads. Visitors can access trails from Stow Road or the parking area inside the main entrance. This parcel provides many varied habitats for exploration. Hikers will enjoy the two ponds, a brook, hayfields, meadows, and wooded areas. Fish and snapping turtles inhabit the ponds, and meadow birds, including bluebirds and red-winged blackbirds, are common. Bobolinks nest in the meadows in the spring and early summer. The main trail, which gently loops around the property, is approximately a mile long. Most of this area is conservation land, but a 5-acre portion is municipal recreation land with soccer fields, a baseball diamond, and a playground.

The town purchased this property in 1979 from Mary Flerra who had the land in agricultural use. The state reimbursed the town for a portion of the cost. The Boxborough Minutemen’s annual Fifer’s Day festival is held here, as is the Flerra Summer Playground supported by the Boxborough Recreation Commission, held for elementary school children each July.
