About this Location

The Newton Falls Trail, built on a former railroad bed, follows the Mahoning River as it winds its way downtown. The route provides pleasant neighborhood views of the quaint township that was established in the early 1800s, as well as access to Newton Falls Community Park at its southern end. However, trail users spoiled by wide rail trails might be disappointed; the Newton Falls Trail is a skinny 4 feet wide throughout its entire length.

A highlight of the trail is a view of the bridge that crosses the Mahoning River to connect Bridge Street with Arlington Road. The covered bridge was constructed in 1831 and is the second oldest in the state.

Parking is available at the Newton Falls Trail's southern tip near Newton Falls Community Park on South Center Street or mid-trail at the intersection of Broad Street (OH-534) with West River Road.
