Tips for Birding

Vulture’s Knob is a privately owned mountain bike park on 125 acres. It is open to the public for mountain biking for a donation (suggested donation in the orange barrel in the cabin of $5 each) for trail and site maintenance. Some spectators come to the MTB races and mostly walk the dirt roads that intersect the trails. Mountain bikers are not watching for hikers here, so it could be dangerous to hike the mountain bike trails. There are other (grass) trails and dirt roads that could be hiked if you watch for bikes.

About this Location

There is a daily fee or purchase a yearly pass to access Vultures Knob Mountain Bike Trail.

The venue has hosted a full mountain bike race schedule, including night races, 24-hour races, Xterra trail run races, and adventure races. It’s creative and fun until you fall down, and you’ll fall down. It may be over one of the dozen log bridges, on your way down to the cradle bridge, or over the suspension bridge.

Vultures Knob has existed as one of the few privately owned, legal mountain bike trails in the country that allows full access for mountain biking, trail running, outdoor use, or camping. This has been possible due to the sacrifice, both fiscally and of sweat equity, of a very small group of enthusiasts whose desire is to share the outdoor experience with others.

The trails did not always exist, this venue was once a small county farmer's landfill, capped in 1970. We’re constantly on the move working to turn this once useless property into a sustainable venture with mountain bike and running trails, a 6-acre mulch and organic food waste facility, and an evergreen tree farm. We aim to continue our efforts to develop this 125-acre bike park with additional free-ride trails, downhill runs, and a jump park. We can’t imagine anything else ever existing on this land.
