New wetlands were created around 2020 just to the north of the borrow pit lake. You can easily scope from your car on the gravel road or the parking lot without disturbing the birds.
Sandhill Cranes nest here. Waterfowl can be viewed during migration. A Black-bellied Plover was seen this spring in the new wetlands. They also hosted a flock of 125 Willets one day!!
With lots of open space, this area offers endless possibilities to sportsmen and other nature lovers. Prairie covers much of the west portion of the 106 acres and is home to pheasant, mice and all manner of birds and insects. The east portion is a largely wooded section along Bear Creek. A walking trail surrounds the centrally located pond and a boat ramp gives water lovers easy access to many different non-gas boating options.
