Kendrick Woods has been designated as an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society.
Kendrick Woods State Nature Preserve is an extensive woodland with spring wildflowers and an important stopover for migratory birds. Among the abundant spring wildflowers found in this mixed swamp and woods are several species uncommon to Allen County including swamp saxifrage, Virginia bluebells, green dragon, fire pink, and blue cohosh.
Near the southern end of Kendrick Woods, a flowing artesian sulphur spring is located along the south trail, adjacent to Six Mile Creek.
Located in Allen County approximately 10 miles west of Lima. Take OH-81 west to Defiance Trail. The preserve is located 0.5 miles north on the west side of the Defiance Trail. Parking, nature trails, and restrooms are available.
Two loop trails at Kendrick Woods, a north loop and a south loop, make a 2.4-mile hike through the woods. This park offers some small creek crossings and sees very little traffic. It is very well kept and the trails run along the creek. The trails can be muddy and wet after heavy rain.
