Brady Loop

Brady Loop

Tips for Birding

Usually entered at the Brady Loop turn off Hwy 12.   From here turn left onto the Monte-Brady Rd.  Follow this in a clockwise loop, turning onto Brady Loop Road, following it as the road loops through farm fields.  At the intersection with Foster Rd. you can turn right to explore the lush wet fields of this road. Return to Brady Loop Rd. and follow it all the way around to the Monte Brady Rd.  From here you can turn left to go to Hwy 12 farther west, or turn right to return to the place you entered off Hwy 12.  All along the loop look for flooded fields with shorebirds or waterfowl. Look for raptors flying or perched.  Look for sparrows on the fencelines.  Look for blackbirds in the fields and trees.  Especially good spots can be just after turning right onto Brady Loop Road early in the loop. As Brady Loop Road turns to the right farther along look for flooded lower fields. On Foster Road look for American Bittern, Great Egret, and Virginia Rail in the flooded fields.  Near the end of the loop at a small bridge in spring and summer look for breeding passerines. Anywhere along the river look in the trees and brushlines for passerines.

Birds of Interest

Shorebirds of all types especially in spring migration, raptors in winter, waterfowl and Sandhill Cranes in winter, American Bittern.  Common Crane was found one winter with a flock of Sandhill Cranes.
