Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania17003
There are large yellow and black signs along the road leading from Indiantown Gap to the site (about 4.75 miles). The first sign is adjacent to Funck's Restaurant at the entrance to the base on PA-934 just north of I-81. The road soon becomes gravelly and winds through the forest. Watch for the signs. Do not deviate from them. You will drive all the way to the very place where you watch. While you are hawk watching you will probably hear shells being fired on the nearby military training grounds; they are the reason for not deviating from your route.
Migrating hawks
This site is located on Second Mountain astride the border of SGL 211 and Indiantown Gap Military Reservation. Parking is at the watch site on a cleared gravel lot that will accommodate over 100 cars. Lawn chairs are recommended for best comfort. The best [fall] flights are seen on south winds, following cold front passages. It is one of several convenient Pa. hawk watches, and handicapped friendly.
